Newark NJ police are investigating a quadruple shooting that left one person dead.
The violent incident happened in the South Ward of Newark, New Jersey. The Newark Police Department received a report of gunshots being fired on the 700 block of South 19th Street in Newark at 5:45 p.m. The shooter reportedly fired gunshots while seated inside a moving vehicle.
One of the shooting victims, a 22-year-old woman from Bloomfield NJ, was later pronounced dead at University Hospital in Newark. Medical officials confirmed that she died due to her shooting-related injuries.
The other shooting victims survived their gunshot wounds. Two of the victims were taken to the Newark hospital via ambulance, while the other victims sought treatment on his own at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, New Jersey.
The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are working together on an investigation into the fatal shooting. A witness reportedly told investigators that the woman who died in the shooting worked in a nearby building and was an innocent bystander.
If police do eventually identify and apprehend the shooter, that person could face criminal charges for first degree murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
