Newark NJ police are trying to find a man who allegedly used a handgun to threaten someone inside a local store.
The violent incident occurred a short time after 10:00 p.m. at the 2-4 Supermarket, which is located in the area of Central Avenue and 1st Street in the Central Ward of Newark, New Jersey. According to law enforcement officials, the suspect was inside the supermarket when he got into an argument with the victim.
At some point, the argument went from being merely verbal to being physical. The suspect allegedly brandished a handgun and pointed it at the victim. Moreover, the suspect reportedly threatened to shoot the victim.
Fortunately, nobody sustained any injuries during the altercation. The incident ended with the suspect leaving the store. Witnesses subsequently dialed 911 and notified the Newark Police Department. However, by the time police officers got to the scene, the suspect was long gone.
Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose issued a statement indicating that Newark police investigators had obtained store surveillance video showing the suspect in the process of committing the violent crime.
If police can eventually identify and apprehend the suspect, he would likely face criminal charges for aggravated assault. Additionally, it is possible that the suspect could face criminal charges for illegal handgun possession and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
