A major drug operation by Newark NJ law enforcement led to the arrests of more than 200 people and the seizures of drugs and weapons.
Authorities opened the investigation after getting several complaints from Newark residents about drug trafficking in the city. The subsequent drug operation lasted from April 21 to May 20.
The drug busts resulted in the seizure of 20 illegal handguns.
Beyond that, Newark NJ police officers reportedly seized heroin, cocaine, and marijuana with a total street value of more than $57,000. The illegal narcotics reportedly included 2,163 packets of heroin, 1,076 vials of cocaine, 480 plastic bags filled with marijuana, and 11 prescription pills.
Additionally, police reportedly seized nearly $20,000 in cash believed to represent the proceeds of illegal drug transactions.
Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose issued a statement about the police operation and praised local residents for working with police “to make Newark safer.”
