Police recently arrested a TSA screener at Newark Liberty International Airport after she was allegedly caught in possession of marijuana while driving to work.
The suspect is a 33-year-old woman who lives in Newark and works at Newark Liberty International Airport. She is employed at the airport as a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screener.
According to law enforcement, the suspect was pulled over for having unclear plates while driving a BMW to the airport with her boyfriend. Police officers searched her and allegedly found her with 134 grams of marijuana.
The female suspect has been charged with numerous drug crimes, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana near school property, possession of marijuana near public housing, and conspiracy. The suspect was also issued traffic citations for driving while suspended and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) in a motor vehicle.
Meanwhile, the male suspect, a 30-year-old Newark resident, was also charged with several drug offenses.
The arrests and charges against the suspects were announced by Anthony Ambrose, the Newark public safety director. Ambrose said that the female suspect has currently been suspended from her job and that he TSA badge was confiscated by law enforcement during the arrest. It is expected that TSA will take immediate action to terminate the suspect’s employment.
