Police recently arrested three men who were allegedly dealing illegal drugs at a discount store in Newark, New Jersey.
According to law enforcement, the suspects committed the drug crimes at a 99-cent store located at 303 Clinton Avenue in Newark’s South Ward.
After receiving word of drug activity in the area, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office sent officers from the Bureau of Narcotics to investigate. The officers were assisted in the investigation by the Irvington Police Department.
Police conducted surveillance at the store and allegedly saw the three suspects, who are all from Newark NJ, rotate in shifts outside the building. At some point, a woman reportedly approached one of the suspects. A short time later, another suspect allegedly walked out of the store and handed her a small package; she reportedly handed him a wad of cash.
When Irvington police approached, one of the suspects allegedly ran inside the store and tried to flush an unknown quantity of drugs down the toilet.
Once police got inside the building, they reportedly discovered 27 bags of marijuana, in addition to drug packaging and processing materials. Police also allegedly found one of the suspects in possession of five envelopes of heroin.
All three suspects face charges for drug possession and drug distribution, including possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of heroin.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspects were transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ. They were being held in custody at the jail.
