A Newark NJ man suffered serious injuries after reportedly being hit by a drunk driver in Matawan, New Jersey.
According to law enforcement, the victim was walking across Route 79 in Matawan when he was struck by a 2015 Toyota Corolla. The incident reportedly occurred around 8:00 p.m.
The 47-year-old Matawan resident who was allegedly behind the wheel of the car was placed under arrest after police determined that he was likely intoxicated.
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old victim was rushed via helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. He received medical treatment and is currently in critical condition.
The suspect in the case has been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI). Depending on the outcome of an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Matawan Police Department, the suspect could face additional charges for assault by auto.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was released with a pending court date.
