A Newark NJ man was shot and killed in a violent incident on a city street.
The violent crime happened at 2:40 a.m. on the 100 block of North 5th Street in Newark, New Jersey. The Newark Police Department got a report of gunshots being fired in the area and dispatched cops to the scene.
When police officers arrived at the site of the shooting, they found the victim in a car that had stopped in the middle of the road. The victim was “unresponsive” and needed to be rushed to nearby University Hospital for medical treatment. Tragically, doctors at the Newark NJ medical facility were unable to save the victim’s life.
The shooting victim was later identified as a 29-year-old resident of Newark in Essex County, NJ.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Newark Police Department are actively investigating the homicide.
If law enforcement is able to identify the shooter, that person could face criminal charges for first degree murder and weapons offenses.
