Four people were recently indicted on murder charges connected to the fatal shooting death of a woman in Newark, New Jersey.
According to Essex County prosecutors, the homicide occurred during an armed robbery on a Newark street in November 2014. The victim was a 22-year-old woman who lived in Newark.
The shooting occurred outside a residence located on 3rd Street in Newark. The victim was walking to a friend’s house when the suspects allegedly approached her. The suspects then allegedly grabbed the victim’s cell phone and shot her multiple times.
The suspects allegedly drove off in a white Maxima.
The victim, a young mother, was rushed to nearby University Hospital. Tragically, she died as a result of her injuries the next day.
Newark police investigated the incident and recovered the cell phone near the location of the shooting.
The suspects were eventually identified and captured. Three of the suspects were arrested in New Jersey, while one of the suspects was found hiding in an apartment in Savannah, Georgia.
The suspects include a 21-year-old Newark man, a 28-year-old Newark NJ man, a 22-year-old Irvington man, and a 25-year-old Irvington NJ woman.
All four suspects were charged with a number of crimes, including murder, armed robbery, and various weapons offenses.
Now that the suspects have been indicted on the criminal charges, they are scheduled to appear in Essex County Superior Court for an arraignment.
Two of the suspects are currently being held in the Essex County Correctional Facility on separate $750,000 bail amounts. One of the other suspects is being held at the jail on a $300,000 bail amount, while the fourth suspect is being held at the jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
