Law enforcement is investigating a recent shooting incident involving Newark NJ police officers.
The shooting occurred around 1:00 a.m. near the intersection of South Orange Avenue and South 16th Street in Newark, New Jersey. The Newark Police Department got a 911 call about a disturbance in the area and sent police officers to the scene.
Newark officials have not yet indicated exactly what happened once the cops arrived at the scene. What is known is that at least two of the police officers discharged their firearms and fired multiple gunshots at a suspect. It is unclear whether the police shooting was prompted by someone else brandishing a weapon or firing gunshots at the cops.
Fortunately, nobody suffered any serious injuries as a result of the Newark police shooting.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau is currently investigating the shooting. This is standard procedure anytime a police officer uses their weapon in the line of duty.
