East Orange NJ police continue to investigate the shooting death of a woman who was sitting in her parked car.
According to Essex County prosecutors, the 21-year-old victim, who lived in East Orange, was sitting in her parked car on the 200 block of North Maple Avenue when someone approached her vehicle and shot her.
The victim was later found suffering from a gunshot wound. She was immediately rushed to University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save her; she was pronounced dead roughly 30 minutes later.
Police began an investigation and eventually identified a 21-year-old suspect. According to police, the suspect lives in East Orange, NJ.
The suspect has been formally charged with murder, as well as various weapons offenses. He is currently being held at the Essex County Jail in Newark on a $750,000 bond.
The East Orange Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes and Homicide Task Force are asking for the public’s assistance in gathering information about the suspect. Investigators also hope to identify any other potential suspects in the case. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call 877-847-7432.
The killing was the first to occur in East Orange in 2015. There were just two recorded homicides in East Orange during the entirety of 2014.
