An alleged carjacking incident in Newark New Jersey ended with a fatality.
According to law enforcement, six suspects committed a carjacking during the early morning hours in Newark, NJ. The suspects allegedly stole a silver Jaguar sedan while the driver passed through the Valisburg section of Newark.
Newark police officers reportedly saw the suspects and pursued them through the South Ward.
The deadly incident occurred in Newark’s South Ward, near the intersection Hawthorne Avenue and Demarest Street. Police quickly apprehended three of the suspects and struck a fourth suspect with a patrol car.
The suspect who was hit by the police car was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The other two suspects fled the scene on foot, but they were soon located at a residence located on West Runyon Street. At that point, the Newark Police Department’s Emergency Response Team began a standoff that lasted several hours. The suspects eventually exited the house and surrendered to law enforcement.
It is believed that the suspects may have also been involved in another robbery and shooting after the carjacking incident.
At this time, Newark police have not yet released any specific information about the suspects.
