Newark NJ police recently apprehended two juveniles accused of stealing a Jeep in Jersey City, New Jersey.
According to Newark officials, the suspects were among a group of three people who stole the vehicle from outside a residence in Jersey City, NJ. The owner of the Jeep contacted the Jersey City Police Department and reported the vehicle as stolen. Jersey City police then sent out an alert to police departments throughout New Jersey and provided a description of the stolen vehicle.
Sometime later, law enforcement officers on patrol in Newark NJ received a tip about the stolen Jeep and subsequently spotted the motor vehicle. The police officers saw the stolen on the roadway near the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Chadwick Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. The Newark cops followed the Jeep into a driveway on Peshine Avenue and pulled up behind the vehicle. At that point, the three occupants of the stolen vehicle allegedly jumped out and began to flee the scene on foot. Police officers were able to capture two of the suspects; the third suspect managed to get away.
The two juvenile suspects who were captured by Newark police now face criminal charges for theft of movable property. Depending on whether the suspects are charged as juveniles or as adults, they could be subject to severe criminal penalties.
