Police in Newark, New Jersey are investigating the fatal shooting of two men in a parked car.
The shooting incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. The victims, a 33-year-old East Orange man and a 26-year-old Newark NJ man, were reportedly sitting in a car parked on the 400 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard in Newark, New Jersey.
It was around 5:30 p.m. when the Newark Police Department received a 911 to call to report that there had been a shooting. When police officers and emergency medical crews arrived at the scene, they found the two victims suffering from catastrophic gunshot wounds. Tragically, emergency workers were unable to do anything to save the victims; the men were pronounced dead at the site of the shooting.
The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the homicides. At this point, investigators have not yet been able to identify a suspect or a motive for the shooting.
If authorities eventually identify and capture the shooter, that person would likely face murder charges. A conviction on first degree murder in New Jersey could result in a sentence of life imprisonment in NJ State Prison.
