Raids in Newark and Millburn Result in Arrests of Drug Suspects, Seizure of $30K in Drugs

Police recently conducted several undercover operations in Essex County NJ and arrested five people for drug charges.

Essex County Sheriff’s officers raided an apartment located on Woodside Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. According to officials, the officers heard people inside the apartment yelling “5-0, 5-0” as police approached the door.

Once inside the apartment, police allegedly saw one suspect attempting to throw a plastic bag out of a window.

Another suspect allegedly resisted arrest and tried to punch and kick the officers.

Both suspects were eventually placed under arrest. The suspect who allegedly attacked police was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

Police later found 133 prescription pills and 26 vials of crack cocaine inside the apartment.

The second raid of the day was carried out by Essex County Sheriff’s officers and federal postal investigators. Police executed a search warrant at a home located on Greenbrook Drive in Millburn, NJ.

Officers arrested a 21-year-old suspect who allegedly accepted a package that contained more than two pounds of pot. He has been charged with possession of marijuana.

The third raid occurred at an apartment located on Summer Avenue in Newark NJ.

Authorities said that a 27-year-old suspect jumped out of a bedroom window and attempted to flee the scene. Police officers were able to track him down and place him under arrest. He has been charged with resisting arrest.

Another suspect was reportedly apprehended “before he could jump from a window” in the apartment.

Police allegedly found 565 grams of marijuana, 12 grams of heroin, 7 Xanax tablets, and assorted drug paraphernalia inside the apartment.

Officers reportedly seized $30,000 worth of illegal drugs during all three raids.

According to law enforcement, three of the five people who were arrested are believed to be gang members. All of the suspects have been charged with drug crimes.

A number of agencies assisted with the investigations, including the United States Postal Service and the Essex County Bureau of Narcotics.
