Newark NJ police recently arrested an alleged gang member who is accused of dealing drugs in the city.
According to law enforcement, undercover Essex County sheriff’s officers observed the 30-year-old suspect in the process of completing a drug sale around the intersection of Weequahic Avenue and Clinton Place in Newark, New Jersey. The officers were present because of several complaints about open-air drug deals in the neighborhood.
Police officers reportedly saw the suspect place a black plastic bag in the bushes just off the roadway. A short time later, a 34-year-old man reportedly drove by, spoke with the suspect, and then got drugs from the plastic bag. He then allegedly gave an unspecified amount of cash to the suspect.
When police subsequently searched the bushes, they allegedly discovered 305 glassine envelopes filled with heroin, 146 bags of crack cocaine, and 22 bags of marijuana. Officials said that the drugs had an estimated street value of approximately $5,000.
The suspect, who lives in Irvington, is reportedly a member of the Crips gang. She has been charged with distribution of heroin, distribution of crack cocaine, and distribution of marijuana.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Essex County Jail in Newark, NJ. She later secured her release from jail by posting $200,000 cash bond.
