Law enforcement is trying to find a suspect in the recent stabbing of a man on a street in the East Ward of Newark, New Jersey.
The violent incident occurred near the intersection of Astor Street and Broad Street around 12:30 p.m. The Newark Police Department received a 911 call about an assault in progress and immediately dispatched police officers to the area. When Newark NJ cops got to the scene of the attack, they found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The victim, a 33-year-old Newark man, was rushed to University Hospital and treated for his injuries. Fortunately, the victim is expected to survive and was listed in stable condition.
Newark detectives spoke with the victim, who told them that he was assaulted by a 53-year-old Newark NJ man.
According to the victim, the genesis of the assault was a verbal dispute. At this time, it is unclear what caused the altercation in the first place.
Now that Newark police have identified the suspect in the aggravated assault, authorities are asking for the public’s help in located him. Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said that anyone who knows the whereabouts of the suspect, or anyone who has information about the attack, should call the Newark Police Department’s Crime Stoppers tip line at 877-NWK-TIPS or 877-NWK-GUNS.
