Newark NJ police arrested a New York man who allegedly sold illegal drugs in the Central Ward.
The Newark Police Department sent detectives to a building located on the 100 block of 1st Street in Newark after receiving a report of a man brandishing a handgun. When Newark NJ cops got to the apartment building, they spoke to witnesses and learned that the suspect had gone to the second floor and was allegedly hiding in a vacant apartment on the second floor.
The Newark Police Department Emergency Services Unit then sent officers to the scene and got permission to enter the vacant apartment. Police reportedly captured the suspect just as he was attempting to exit through a window.
A subsequent search of the apartment allegedly turned up a bag filled with two 9mm handguns, 81 glassine envelopes of heroin, a sandwich bag filled with 2.7 grams of heroin, 18 containers of cocaine, 36 Ziploc bags of marijuana, and five Xanax pills. According to authorities, the handguns were loaded with ammunition.
Additionally, Newark cops reportedly found credit cards, NJ driver’s licenses, Social Security cards, cell phones, a camera, a black ski mask, and more than $250 in cash.
The suspect, a 22-year-old resident of Staten Island, NY, faces criminal charges for possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, illegal possession of prescription drugs, unlawful possession of a weapon, and criminal trespassing. The suspect could also face enhanced penalties for allegedly distributing drugs near a school.
