Newark NJ police recently arrested a local man accused of stealing a car and then leaving the scene of an accident that injured two people.
The suspect allegedly stole a 2002 Jeep Laredo last month. Newark patrol cops reportedly saw the suspect driving the Jeep and fail to come to a complete stop near the intersection of North 13th Avenue and 7th Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. The police officers attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle, but the suspect reportedly hit the gas and tried to flee the area.
The Newark cops pursued the suspect and ran a vehicle check, which led to the discovery that the Jeep had been reported as stolen out of Belleville, NJ.
The suspect eventually crashed the Jeep into two cars that had stopped near the intersection of Orange Street and Roseville Avenue. Two occupants in the stopped vehicles sustained minor injuries as a result of the auto accident and required medical treatment at University Hospital in Newark.
After allegedly crashing the stolen Jeep, the suspect reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to make a run for it. Police officers quickly chased him down and placed him under arrest.
The suspect is a 32-year-old resident of Newark, New Jersey. He has been charged with numerous crimes, including receiving stolen property, aggravated assault, eluding police, and resisting arrest.
According to authorities, the suspect is also believed to have been involved in several other crimes in Newark.
