Law enforcement has identified a man who was killed in a violent triple shooting on a Newark NJ street.
Police received a report of a daytime shooting on the 600 block of Hunterdon Street in Newark, New Jersey. When police officers got to the scene, they found three people who had been shot. One of the victims, a 24-year-old Newark man, was deceased by the time police arrived at the scene.
The two other victims, who also live in Newark, were taken to nearby University Hospital. Doctors treated the victims, who remain in critical but stable condition. At this time, police have not released any information about the two victims.
The shootings occurred outside the Clinton Arms housing complex. Remarkably, the site of the shootings is located less than a block away from Newark police headquarters and the Office of Emergency Management.
The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are actively investigating the triple shooting. They have yet to identify any suspects or a motive for the shooting.
If investigators are eventually able to identify and apprehend the shooter, serious criminal charges could follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, homicide is the most serious offense in the New Jersey Criminal Code. A conviction for first degree murder could result in life imprisonment, with a minimum term of incarceration of 30 years.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has asked that anyone with information about the shootings please contact the prosecutor’s office anonymous tips line at 877-847-7432.
