Authorities apprehended a Newark NJ man accused of fatally shooting someone on a city street last week.
The homicide occurred around 8:30 p.m. on October 23. The victim was walking on Peabody Place in Newark New Jersey when the suspect allegedly approached him and used a handgun to fire multiple gunshots in his direction.
Newark law enforcement received a report of gunshots fired and immediately sent police officers to the scene. However, by the time Newark NJ cops got to the area, the victim had already died as a result of his gunshot-related injuries.
The victim was 29 years of age when he passed away. He lived in Newark, New Jersey.
Several law enforcement agencies worked together on the investigation, including the Newark Police Department, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Agents with the FBI Fugitive Task Force eventually located and arrested the suspect in Newark, New Jersey.
The suspect, a 24-year-old Newark NJ man, has been charged with multiple criminal offenses, including first degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $750K bail amount.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the first degree murder charges, he could end up spending the rest of his life behind bars.
