Law enforcement arrested a man accused of stealing from elderly women in Nutley NJ supermarkets.
According to authorities, the suspect snatched the purses of several elderly victims in recent months. The suspect allegedly committed theft crimes throughout Essex County, Bergen County, and Middlesex County.
Law enforcement investigated the series of thefts and eventually identified the suspect as a 62-year-old resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Police investigators were able to identify the suspect after looking at surveillance camera footage that reportedly showed him stealing a wallet from an elderly woman at a supermarket in Nutley. The victim in that case was 74 years of age. She told authorities that her wallet contained several hundred dollars, as well as her identification cards.
The suspect allegedly committed other thefts and got away with cash, credit cards, and debit cards.
Police tracked down the suspect at a residence in Wallington, NJ. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with multiple counts of theft of movable property.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. He was being held at the jail until he could be transferred to Essex County.
