Newark NJ law enforcement is trying to find a man accused of shooting a local woman on a city street.
The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The Newark Police Department received multiple reports of shots fired on Schofield Street in Newark, New Jersey. When Newark NJ cops arrived at the scene, they found the female victim a short distance away from Schofield Street.
The 30-year-old victim reportedly sustained a serious gunshot wound as a result of the shooting incident. She was briefly treated at the scene before being rushed to nearby University Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery to save her life. After being treated by physicians, the victim was listed in critical condition.
Newark detectives are actively investigating the shooting. Although investigators have gotten a number of leads in the case, they have yet to identify the shooter. Additionally, law enforcement has not yet determined a motive for the shooting.
If and when the culprit is identified and apprehended, he is likely to face serious criminal charges for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Moreover, if the victim’s condition does not improve and she passes away as a result of her gunshot-related injuries, the shooter could also face first degree murder charges.
