Newark NJ police arrested two men accused of committing a carjacking offense and then crashing the stolen vehicle.
According to law enforcement, the carjacking victim ran into the Newark Police Division’s 1st Precinct headquarters and said that two men had just stolen his automobile. Additionally, the victim told police that the suspects crashed his car and then fled the area on foot.
Three police supervisors with the Newark Police Department rushed out to Hunterdon Street in Newark NJ, where the suspects were last seen running away from the car accident scene. The police officers quickly found the suspects and gave chase for a brief while before finally apprehending them.
While allegedly running away from police officers, the suspects dropped a bag that allegedly containing a number of stolen items, including stolen credit cards and stolen cell phones.
The suspects include an 18-year-old Newark NJ man and a 17-year-old who is also from Newark, New Jersey.
The victim, a 53-year-old man who lives in Newark, was not injured as a result of the violent carjacking incident.
Anthony Ambrose, the Newark Police Public Safety Director, issued a statement commending the arresting officers for removing the two suspects from Newark NJ streets. Ambrose also said that the arrests of the suspects will ensure that other residents of Newark are not victimized in theft incidents and assault crimes.
