Newark New Jersey police are investigating a recent shooting that left four people with injuries.
The dangerous incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. The Newark Police Department received a report of gunshots being fired in the area of the 30 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard in Newark, NJ.
When Newark police officers arrived at the scene, they conducted an investigation and located ballistic evidence indicating that gunshots had been fired.
Police did not come across any of the victims at the scene of the shooting. However, Newark police later learned that the victims had been transported to nearby University Hospital via private vehicles.
All of the victims were treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, police have not revealed the identities of any of the shooting victims.
Newark NJ police are actively investigating the shooting incident. Police have yet to identify the culprit or a motive for the shooting.
If investigators do eventually learn the identity of the shooter, they could be subject to significant criminal charges for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, anyone who possesses a handgun for an unlawful purpose can be charged with a second degree felony and sentenced to 10 years in NJ State Prison.
Newark police have asked members of the public to provide information that could be useful in the investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect should call the Newark Police Department’s anonymous tip line at 877-NWK-TIPS or 877-NWK-GUNS.
