Police in Newark New Jersey are investigating a shooting that left one person with serious gunshot-related injuries.
The violent incident went down around 1:00 a.m. near the intersection of South 7th Street and 12th Avenue in Newark, NJ.
The victim is a 47-year-old man who resides in Newark NJ. He reportedly sustained one gunshot wound during the shooting.
After Newark police officers and emergency medical responders arrived at the scene, the victim was transported to a nearby hospital. Doctors at the Newark medical facility treated the victim for his injuries. He was later listed in stable condition.
Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said that the shooting may be related to a domestic violence incident. At this time, Newark law enforcement has not provided any further details about the case, including whether the shooting victim had sought a restraining order against the suspect.
According to Ambrose, the victim in the case was being “uncooperative” with investigators who were trying to ascertain exactly what happened. This sort of behavior is not uncommon in domestic disputes, with the domestic violence victim often not wanting to get the domestic violence offender into any trouble with law enforcement.
If the suspect in the shooting incident is placed under arrest, she could face serious criminal charges for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, in addition to other weapons offenses. It is also possible that she would be subject to a temporary restraining order (TRO) or even a final restraining order (FRO), depending on the circumstances of the case.
