Police in Newark NJ are investigating a shooting incident that resulted in two teen boys being hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
The shooting occurred during the early morning hours, a short time before 1:00 a.m. According to the Newark Police Department, the victims got into an argument with the shooter while walking near the intersection of Avon Avenue and Somerset Street in Newark, New Jersey.
Newark NJ law enforcement got a call about the shooting and immediately sent officers to the area.
Emergency medical responders briefly treated the victims at the scene before rushing them to nearby University Hospital.
The victims were later identified as a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, both of whom are said to be residents of Newark, NJ.
Thankfully, both teenagers are expected to survive their injuries. Hospital officials indicated that the victims were doing okay after receiving medical treatment from doctors: one victim was listed in stable condition, while the other was still listed in critical condition.
The Newark Police Department Cease Fire Shooting Unit is actively investigating the shooting and trying to identify the shooter. At this time, Newark NJ detectives have not yet determined the identity of the person responsible for the shooting.
If authorities can eventually figure out the shooter’s identity, he would likely be charged with aggravated assault, as well as various weapons offenses.
