Newark detectives are investigating recent shootings that resulted in two deaths and multiple people suffering injuries.
The first fatal shooting happened just after 8:00 p.m. on the 1100 block of South Orange Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. According to Essex County prosecutors, someone used a handgun to shoot three people on the sidewalk.
The three victims were rushed to an area hospital, where doctors pronounced one of them dead. The other two shooting victims survived their gunshot wounds.
The second shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. on North 9th Street, just a few blocks away from the site of the first fatal shooting. The Newark Police Department received a 911 call about gunshots being fired in the area and dispatched officers to the scene.
When Newark NJ cops arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found a female victim who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
On the same night, Newark police were called to the 300 block of 6th Avenue to investigate yet another shooting. This violent incident resulted in two people suffering significant physical injuries.
Detectives with the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are actively investigating the recent shootings and searching for suspects. If and when law enforcement can identify and arrest any suspects, the culprits could be subject to multiple criminal charges for first degree murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses.
