Newark NJ law enforcement is investigating the fatal shooting of a local man during a carjacking incident.
The incident went down in the late afternoon. According to Newark officials, a suspect committed the carjacking near the intersection of Bergen Street and 14th Avenue in Newark, New Jersey.
Although the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has yet to officially confirm that the shooting occurred during a carjacking, it is believed by authorities that the homicide victim was killed by a suspect who was attempting to steal his car.
A child was in the motor vehicle at the time of the shooting. Thankfully, the child was not harmed during the shooting incident.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Task Force is actively investigating the homicide. At this time, authorities have not yet identified the person responsible for the fatal shooting.
This was the second carjacking-related shooting to occur in New Jersey in a two-day period. According to law enforcement, a man was shot and killed during a carjacking attempt in Penns Grove, NJ. The suspect later took the stolen car to Pennsylvania, where he abandoned the vehicle.
