A Newark NJ man was busted for allegedly stealing cooking oil from a restaurant in Linden, New Jersey.
According to authorities, a Linden police officer spotted the suspect attempting to commit the theft around 1:00 a.m. When the patrol officer drove past Bella Gina’s Italian Deli and Catering, he saw the 33-year-old suspect sitting in a white Ford van parked behind the restaurant.
The police officer approached the suspect’s motor vehicle and reportedly noticed a half-full tank of liquid in the back of the van.
Additionally, the police officer said that another possible suspect in the theft took off when he saw the officer move toward the van.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s van allegedly turned up a pair of orange work gloves, a hose, a pump, and a used cooking oil container.
The suspect was placed under arrest at the scene. Law enforcement canvassed the area in search of the other suspect; however, police were unable to find him.
The main suspect has been charged with attempted theft of movable property.
Authorities also seized the suspect’s van.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Union County Jail. He was being held at the jail in lieu of bail.
