A Montclair NJ man has been charged with first degree murder for allegedly shooting, and killing, an Irvington man who was walking in Newark, New Jersey.
The suspect is a 22-year-old resident of Montclair, NJ. According to authorities, he used a firearm to fatally shoot the victim, a 22-year-old resident of Irvington, NJ. The suspect allegedly committed the homicide around 2:30 a.m. as the victim walked along Clifton Avenue in Newark, NJ.
The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office worked together on the investigation and quickly identified the suspect as the likely shooter. Newark NJ cops subsequently located the suspect and placed him under arrest. Authorities have not yet revealed what the motive for the shooting may have been.
The suspect faces criminal charges for first degree murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, this was the second fatal shooting to occur in Newark on the same day. A 19-year-old Irvington NJ man was shot and killed while walking on North Munn Avenue in Newark. Another man, a 24-year-old Newark resident, was also seriously injured as a result of the same shooting incident. No suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
The suspect who was apprehended in the other shooting is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on a $750K bail amount.
