Federal agents recently arrested a man accused of committing a homicide on a Newark NJ street last month.
The homicide occurred around 9:00 a.m. on October 18. The suspect allegedly walked into Dalbert Grocery Store, which is located on West Runyon Street in Newark NJ, and approached the store manager. The suspect then allegedly used a handgun to shoot and kill the manager.
Afterwards, the suspect reportedly exited the grocery store and fled the area on foot.
The victim was 55 years old. By the time police officers and emergency medical responders got to the scene, there was nothing that could be done to save his life.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office collaborated on the investigation into the fatal shooting. At this time, authorities have not revealed whether the shooting was related to a robbery attempt or if there was some other motive for the killing.
Investigators eventually determined the identity of the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Members of the FBI Fugitive Task Force then located the suspect in the Bronx, NY and placed him under arrest.
The suspect faces numerous criminal charges, including first degree murder, illegal possession of a handgun, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. If he is convicted on the most serious charges of murder, he could end up spending the rest of his life in New Jersey State Prison.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of $750,000 bail.
