Three women from Newark NJ were arrested after allegedly shoplifting clothes from a retail store and then trying to flee police.
Linden police received a report of three women stealing clothes from the Kohl’s store at 1900 East Linden Avenue in Linden, New Jersey. When police officers got to the scene, they saw a 2006 BMW 325i leaving the store parking lot. Police said that the vehicle nearly collided with a police cruiser as the suspects sped out of the lot.
A police officer followed the car, which reportedly ran a red light on South Park Avenue before turning north onto Routes 1&9.
The police officer turned on the patrol cruiser’s lights and siren while continuing to follow the suspects. The BMW soon passed through Elizabeth, New Jersey.
When the suspects’ vehicle eventually came to a stop in heavy traffic, several police officers converged on the car and placed the suspects under arrest.
The three suspects hail from Newark. Additionally, all three suspects are 30 years old.
The women have all been charged with shoplifting. According to authorities, they stole more than $600 worth of clothes from the Kohl’s store.
The driver of the vehicle faces additional charges for eluding police. She is currently being held at the Union County Jail in Elizabeth in lieu of $100,000 bail; the other suspects are being held at the facility in lieu of $50,000 bail amounts.
