Newark Woman Charged with Aggravated Manslaughter, Allegedly Stabbed Boyfriend Over Xbox Dispute

Suspect in Fatal Xbox Stabbing in Newark NJAuthorities believe that a Newark NJ man was fatally stabbed by his girlfriend during an argument over a Microsoft Xbox video game console.

According to police reports, couple lived together at a house on the 100 block of Stuyvesant Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. The tragic incident reportedly occurred during the morning hours.

The 28-year-old suspect allegedly stabbed her 26-year-old boyfriend after the couple got into a heated argument about their video game console.

When the verbal dispute escalated, the suspect allegedly retrieved a knife from the kitchen and then stabbed the victim once in the chest.

Emergency responders were called to the scene and promptly rushed the victim to nearby University Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors could not save the victim; he was pronounced dead sometime after arriving at the medical facility.

Newark police placed the suspect under arrest without incident. She was charged with aggravated manslaughter. In accordance with N.J.S.A. 2C:11-4(b), a manslaughter charge can be elevated to an aggravated manslaughter charge when the offender recklessly causes death under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life. A conviction on aggravated manslaughter charges could lead to a sentence of 10-30 years in New Jersey State Prison.

The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Task Force are working together on the investigation into the alleged murder.

After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ. She was being held at the jail on a $500,000 bail amount.

According to the prosecutor’s office, this recent death represents the 36th homicide in Newark in 2015.
