Newark New Jersey police have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing that allegedly stemmed from an altercation over an Xbox.
According to authorities, the victim was a 26-year-old male who lived in Newark, NJ. Police said that the victim got into a dispute with his girlfriend at their home on the 100 block of Stuyvesant Avenue in Newark, New Jersey.
The verbal argument spilled over into a physical altercation, which reportedly resulted in the 28-year-old female suspect grabbing a knife and fatally stabbing the victim.
The victim was taken to nearby University Hospital, but doctor were unable to save him; he was pronounced dead at the medical facility. Essex County prosecutors issued a statement indicating that the victim died due to an apparent knife wound.
Newark NJ police placed the suspect under arrest and charged her with aggravated manslaughter.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey. She was being held at the jail on a $500,000 bail amount.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the fatal stabbing is the 36th homicide to occur so far this year in Newark, NJ.
The city’s 35th homicide happened just a few days prior to this killing when a local man was shot and killed while he sat in a parked car. The incident occurred in the 700 block of South 20th Street. The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Task Force have not yet identified and suspects in the shooting, but they did state that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
