Newark NJ law enforcement is investigating four shooting incidents over the weekend that left six people with serious injuries.
The first violent shooting occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. Someone used a handgun to fire multiple gunshots at a group of people standing on 20th Street, near 19th Avenue, in Newark, New Jersey. Three individuals sustained severe injuries as a result of the shooting.
The other shooting incidents occurred on Sunday at various locations in Newark: the Bradley Court Public Housing Complex, Garside Street, and West Runyon Street.
All of the victims were taken to University Hospital in Newark and treated for their injuries. Two of the victims needed to stay overnight at the medical facility.
The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are currently investigating all of the shootings. However, law enforcement has yet to identify any suspects or make any arrests in connection with the violent incidents.
If authorities can eventually determine the identities of the shooters, it is likely that criminal charges for aggravated assault or simple assault would be forthcoming.
Members of the public with information about the shootings should contact detectives at 877-695-8477.
