Newark NJ police have asked for the public’s help in locating the family of a possible homicide victim.
In late November, the Newark Police Department received a call about a missing person who resided at a home on Hawthorne Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. A neighbor had reached out to police after not seeing the 53-year-old victim for several days.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the apartment resident lying motionless in his bed. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Although detectives did not find any signs of foul play at the victim’s apartment, Newark police officers are still investigating the case. If it is eventually determined that the death was a result of murder, serious criminal charges could potentially follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, a murder conviction can result in life imprisonment in New Jersey State Prison, with a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 30 years.
The Newark Police Department has asked that anyone with information about the victim or the whereabouts of his family members reach out to Newark detectives at 973-733-4418.
