Newark New Jersey police recently seized a large quantity of heroin and arrested three men for heroin distribution.
The Newark Police Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit received a tip about a large drug sale set to occur at a residence in the 200 block of Broadway. The person calling in the tip also provided police with descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle.
Police officers acted on the tip and set up surveillance at the house. Police waited hours for the suspects to arrive. When the suspects finally showed up, they exited a vehicle and entered the residence.
A short time after going inside the house, the suspects emerged. They were allegedly carrying two garbage bags as they walked outside and got back into their vehicle.
Newark police followed the suspects in unmarked cars. Police stopped the suspects’ vehicle several blocks from the house.
After obtaining a search warrant, police searched the vehicle and reportedly found a huge quantity of illegal drugs.
Police ended up seizing approximately 87,000 decks of heroin. The heroin had a total estimated street value of more than $600,000.
The three suspects, who reside in Elizabeth NJ, were placed under arrest.
All three suspects face a number of drug charges, including heroin distribution and heroin possession.
Authorities have asked for the public’s assistance with the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. Anyone who has information about the suspects should contact the Newark Police Department’s Crime Stoppers tip line at 877-NWK-TIPS or 877-NWK-GUNS.
