Newark NJ Police Arrest Man Accused of Threatening to Shoot Girlfriend

Newark NJ Assault LawyersNewark NJ police recently arrested two people, including a man accused of threatening to shoot his girlfriend in a domestic violence incident.

The Newark Police Department received a call about a man with a gun at a residence located on Wainwright Street. When police officers got to the scene, they reportedly saw the victim running down the stairs at the house.

Police spoke with the woman, who said that her boyfriend had just pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her. The woman said that the incident stemmed from an argument earlier in the day.

The victim also told police that her boyfriend was upstairs in the bedroom. Police officers then entered the home and found the 30-year-old suspect lying on a bed in the bedroom.

Police searched the room and reportedly discovered a 9mm handgun and ammunition under the bed. The officers also allegedly found narcotics in the residence.

The suspect was placed under arrest. He has been charged with aggravated assault, illegal drug possession, and a number of weapons offenses such as unlawful possession of a weapon.

On the same day, Newark police officers arrested another man on drug and weapons charges.

Newark patrol officers spotted a group of people standing in front of a house near 1st Street and Orange Street. When the officers approached, the group scattered and began to flee the scene.

According to police, one of the men grabbed at his waistband for what appeared to be a gun. The officers chased after the man, who ran into a building and allegedly tossed a .25-caliber automatic handgun onto the floor. He also allegedly threw a bottle of pills onto the floor.

Police caught up to the suspect and apprehended him. During a subsequent search of the suspect, police reportedly found additional drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with resisting arrest, illegal drug possession, illegal drug distribution, weapons offenses, and theft of movable property.
