Newark NJ police recently apprehended a man accused of fleeing from law enforcement after being caught with a loaded handgun and illegal drugs.
According to law enforcement, the suspect was seen selling illegal narcotics in the Valisburg area of Newark, New Jersey. Multiple people called 911 to report the suspect’s activity. This prompted members of the Newark Police Department Special Enforcement Bureau to go to the area and conduct surveillance. That’s where Newark detectives allegedly saw the suspect conduct a drug transaction.
When police officers approached the suspect, he allegedly tried to flee the scene on foot. However, Newark cops quickly apprehended him and placed him under arrest.
A subsequent search of the suspect reportedly turned up 49 vials of heroin, three vials of crack cocaine, and a loaded .25-caliber handgun. Police also reportedly seized an undisclosed amount of cash believed to represent the proceeds of illegal drug sales.
The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Newark NJ, faces very serious criminal charges for distribution of heroin, distribution of cocaine, and illegal possession of a handgun. The suspect could face enhanced penalties if convicted on the drug charges because he was allegedly selling the drugs within 1,000 feet of a local school.
