Bloomfield NJ police arrested a man who was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident which critically injured a pedestrian.
According to authorities, the 59-year-old suspect was driving a commercial dump truck in Bloomfield NJ when he lost control of the vehicle and hit the pedestrian.
The 56-year-old victim was reportedly walking near Municipal Plaza and Franklin Street at the time of the accident.
Authorities said that the victim suffered “severe and extensive injuries” as a result of the collision. After the accident, the victim was taken to a local hospital. At this time, he remains in critical condition.
The Bloomfield Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office collaborated on the investigation into the incident. Investigators eventually identified the commercial truck and then located the driver of the truck.
The suspect, who reportedly lives in Newark NJ, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident. The charge has been classified as a criminal offense under N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1. This means that the suspect could potentially be sentenced to up to 180 days in the county jail if he is convicted.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey. He is being held at the jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
