A Newark NJ man has pleaded guilty to murder charges stemming from the fatal shooting of a Jersey City woman.
The homicide was committed on June 19, 2012, with the abduction occurring a few days earlier. According to Essex County prosecutors, the suspect was among a group of people who kidnapped the victim while she walked on a Jersey City NJ street. It is believed that one of the men brandished a handgun when they approached the victim and ordered her at gunpoint to get into a motor vehicle
After abducting the victim, the suspect and his accomplices allegedly drove her to a vacant townhouse in Newark, New Jersey.
Authorities later found the victim’s body inside the empty house. Medical officials conducted an autopsy and determined that the victim died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was just 29 years old when she died.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man from Newark NJ, was charged with first degree murder and kidnapping in the case. He eventually reached a plea deal with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
In exchange for agreeing to plead guilty to the murder charges, the suspect will likely avoid life imprisonment.
To date, authorities have not revealed what the suspect’s motive was for kidnapping and killing the Jersey City victim.
The other suspects in the case were also charged with murder. One of the other men, a 28-year-old resident of Irvington NJ, pleaded guilty in October 2014 and remains held in jail while his official sentencing is delayed.
Meanwhile, the two other suspects, a 40-year-old Hillside NJ man and a 41-year-old Newark man, are due to stand trial in Essex County Superior Court.
