A man accused of murdering his girlfriend in Ewing NJ was tracked down by police and arrested at a Belleville NJ motel.
The suspect allegedly strangled the victim, his girlfriend, after the two got into a heated argument at a residence located on Ewingville Road in Ewing, New Jersey. During the verbal altercation, the suspect allegedly grabbed a glass beer bottle and struck the victim in the head. He then allegedly grabbed a cell phone charging cord and used the wire to strangle the victim.
Afterwards, the suspect reportedly attempted to hide the victim’s body underneath a large pile of clothing and blankets.
Ewing police officers were later dispatched to the residence to conduct a welfare check. It was around 3:00 a.m. that police discovered the victim’s body in the bedroom.
Several law enforcement agencies then worked together on an investigation into the homicide, including the Ewing Police Department, the Belleville Police Department, the NJ State Police, and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities eventually tracked down the suspect’s Ford Explorer at a motel in Belleville, New Jersey. The suspect allegedly fled the scene of the murder and went to the Belleville motel. Police officers found the suspect staying in a motel room and placed him under arrest.
The suspect is a 50-year-old male who may have been living with the victim in Ewing, New Jersey. He has been charged with first degree murder. Additionally, the suspect has been charged with multiple weapons offenses, including unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charge of murder, he faces severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is a first degree felony that can result in a punishment of life imprisonment.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was remanded to the Passaic County Jail. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of a massive $1 million bail amount.
