Police in Caldwell NJ are investigating a report of an armed robbery that took place in the parking lot of a local community center.
Caldwell police received a call from the victim shortly after noon. The victim told police that he had been approached by a man in the parking lot of the Caldwell Community Center.
According to police, the suspect was brandishing a silver handgun when he walked up to the victim and demanded that the victim hand over his belongings.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene after taking the victim’s wallet and cell phone.
Thankfully, the victim was not hurt during the incident.
Caldwell detectives are currently investigating the alleged robbery. After speaking with the victim, police released a description of the suspect. The suspect is described as a black male who is thin and stands roughly 5-feet, 8-inches tall. He was reportedly wearing a long-sleeved white shirt, black jeans, black shoes, and a black baseball cap at the time of the incident.
If the suspect is apprehended, he could face significant penalties. That’s because armed robbery is classified as a first degree felony. This means the suspect could be subject to a term of incarceration of 10–20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
