Newark NJ Police Issue 100 Tickets for Illegal Street Racing

Newark NJ Street Racing AttorneysNewark NJ law enforcement recently cracked down on street racing in the city by issuing approximately 100 traffic summonses in a single weekend.

The current efforts to discourage drivers from engaging in dangerous behavior on Newark roadways have focused on certain areas of the city, including the Newark Ironbound section.

According to Anthony Ambrose, the Newark public safety director, most of the recent traffic tickets were issued in the area of Avenue P in Newark, New Jersey. Avenue P has a troubling history of being a popular spot for illegal drag races. A YouTube video from 2012 highlighted Avenue P in Newark as “the hottest spot in the whole Tri-State” for street racing.

While issuing the traffic tickets this past weekend, Newark NJ police officers arrested at least one person who was allegedly caught driving without a valid driver’s license.

Street Racing Poses Safety Concerns in Newark NJ

Street racing has become a major safety concern for Newark NJ officials, particularly as people from other towns visit Newark in order to watch the dangerous contests. In fact, Newark NJ traffic cops issued a number of tickets to Jersey City residents who were either watching or participating in the illegal street races over the weekend.

Other individuals who were cited for traffic offenses included residents of Elizabeth, Union City, and Newark.

The Newark Police Department is expected to continue with the crackdown on street racing in the coming weeks. Anthony Ambrose said that the “ongoing operations” will continue “until those that choose to watch or street race get the message.”
