Two Arrested After Car Chase in Newark NJ, Allegedly Committed Violent Armed Robbery

Newark Armed Robbery AttorneysTwo people were arrested after allegedly stealing a truck and then leading police officers on a car chase in Newark, NJ.

According to authorities, the suspects stole the truck during a violent robbery at an apartment on the 200 block of South Street in Newark, New Jersey. The suspects allegedly forced their way into the residence and then struck the victim with a handgun. The 50-year-old victim did not reside at the apartment; he was visiting a friend at the time of the armed robbery.

The suspects allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as the victim’s cell phone and the keys to his Toyota Tundra pickup truck.

After the theft, the victim left the apartment and screamed for assistance. Police officers happened to be passing by and heard the victim.

Roughly an hour after the alleged theft incident, Newark patrol officers noticed the truck leaving the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant on Mulberry Street. The fast food restaurant is located just a few blocks away from the site of the armed robbery.

Two Newark officers tried to stop the suspect’s vehicle, but the driver reportedly fled the scene. During the subsequent car chase, the suspects allegedly threw several items out of the truck’s windows.

The chase eventually ended when the truck struck a couple of light poles near the intersection of Raymond Boulevard and Lock Street.

After the car accident, the two suspects allegedly tried to flee the scene on foot, but they were quickly apprehended by Newark NJ officers.

Both suspects were taken to nearby University Hospital to receive medical treatment for minor injuries sustained in the car crash.

The driver of the truck, an 18-year-old male, has been charged with armed robbery, receiving stolen property, eluding police, and resisting arrest. He was also cited for numerous traffic violations.

Meanwhile, the passenger, a 16-year-old boy, has been charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
